Twin connection type. M14x1.5 thread. Also suitable for Escort Mk1/Mk2 models provided the connection is changed and an earth wire fitted.

Type 2 - 4 Speed Gearbox
4 speed single rail light duty gearbox as fitted to all Mk1/2 Escorts (excluding RS/Mexico and Twin Cam) and some early base model Sierras.
All Type 2 gearboxes have integral bellhousings. Cast iron bellhousing/maincase with alloy tail housing.
Oil capacity: 0.9 litres

Type 3 - 4 Speed Gearbox
4 speed single rail version of the 2000E gearbox. Cast iron maincase with alloy tail housing.
Oil capacity: 1.1 litres

Ford Type E Rocket 4 Speed Gearbox
(Also referred to as a 'Type B' gearbox in some workshop manuals)
4 speed single rail gearbox, used for more demanding applications than the Type 3 box. It is available most often without an integral bellhousing, although some later boxes (most often found in Sierras) had integral bellhousings. Cast iron maincase with alloy tail housing. Often referred to as the ‘Rocket’ box, although Rocket is the name given to the original close-ratio competition gearbox that was based on the Type E).

Ford Type F 4 Speed Gearbox
(Also referred to as a 'Type H' gearbox in some workshop manuals)
4 speed gearbox with unique side lever shift rods. Cast iron maincase with alloy tail housing.

Ford Type 9 5 Speed Gearbox
(Also referred to as a 'Type N' gearbox in some workshop manuals)
Ford’s first RWD 5 speed box was based on the 4 speed Type E and features a cast iron main case with alloy tail housing. This gearbox is the most commonly used for 5 speed conversions on older vehicles, not just for classic Fords but for other classic makes such as MG and Triumph as well as kit cars. A 4wd version of this box was also available and was fitted in early XR4x4 and Granada Mk3 models.
